Europæ Thesauri
With its headquarters in Liège’s Cathedral, Europæ Thesauri – International Association of Treasures and Churches’ Museums, was founded in 2005 under the patronage of H. I. and R. H. Prince Lorenz, Archduke of Austria-East, Prince of Belgium. It is a Non-Governmental Organization that groups the main European Treasures and Sacred Art Museums and aims to value, qualify and communicate worldwide the European religious heritage. It nowadays encompasses museological institutions from Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal and Switzerland.
The International Congress
The International Congress Treasures of the Church, European Treasures is the first be held in these guidelines. Thought as a pan-european Forum, meant to promote an interdisciplinary reflection on how Church Treasures and Museums are facing contemporary challenges – how, in a quick changing continent, are they assuring their integration in cultural, social and economical, political and religious realities. To prepare the future, to ensure the ongoing legacy of an heritage that is unique, to learn how to work in partnerships, to enrich and to outspread the European cultural identity are outgrowing and ever so demanding challenges. Abiding by the program drawn from Europæ Thesauri meetings of Rome, Cologne and Paris, Beja’s Congress intends to bring to scientific level a wide range of interpretations on religious heritage.
